The ongoing Test series against India has not really been going well for England’s Ben Stokes. The star all-rounder has not really managed to deliver as per his reputation in the ongoing four-match series. He started the series on a good note by playing a fine knock of 82 in the first Test. In the second innings, he had also picked up the important wicket of Virat Kohli to help England thrash the hosts by 227 runs.

But since then, things have been going downhill for him. He fared poorly with both bat and ball in the second Test. With the bat, he registered scores of 18 and 8 and also went wicketless as India thrashed the visitors by a record margin of 317 runs. Stokes’ performance in the ongoing third Test in Ahmedabad has been poor so far too.

On day one of the game, the reigning ICC Player of the Year failed to bail his team out of the trouble.  Stokes managed to score only 6 before being sent back by Axar Patel as England were bundled for 112. Zak Crawley top-scored for them, scoring 53 while Axar stared for India, taking 6 for just 38.

Ben Stokes slammed by fans

As if the failure with the bat was not enough, Ben Stokes has made things worse for him with his action on the field. The England superstar is facing the heat on social media for claiming Shubman Gill’s catch. The incident took place in the second over of India’s innings when Gill edged a Stuart Broad delivery behind the stumps.

Stokes believed he had taken the catch but the umpires were not convinced. Consequently, they went upstairs and replays showed that the ball had landed on the ground before Stokes picked it up. As a result, the umpire gave his decision in the favour of the batsman, leaving Stokes unimpressed. He and his teammates were not convinced with the decision as captain Joe Root was seen complaining to the umpire.

And as Stokes claimed the catch, the fans took to Twitter to slam him.
