Rishabh Pant captivated the jam-packed crowd at Edgbaston in yet another sensational batting effort that saw the 24-year-old register his fifth Test century. This is not the first time the explosive batter has wooed the crowd at a venue, but it somehow felt different, especially when we got to see a jubilant Rahul Dravid in the dressing room, celebrating Pant’s magnificent century passionately with his hands in the air. This was certainly a rare sight and hence, got everyone talking.

The current head coach and former Indian captain, Rahul Dravid is renowned for his calmness and composure on and off the pitch. But even he was not able to contain his emotions after watching the young Indian batter slay the English bowlers in their own backyard as Pant scored a sensational 146 off just 111 deliveries.

Former Indian fast bowler Zaheer Khan, who played under Dravid’s captaincy during his playing career, remarked on his former captain’s celebration by saying that it is a special knock as you don’t often see Dravid celebrate like that.

“When you see a knock like this, emotions are bound to come out, especially considering the state in which India were at one stage. Those who have played the game, understand the value of the innings even more, and Dravid has had a long career, and he understands it as well. You don’t see Dravid usually reacting like that,” Zaheer Khan was quoted as saying to Cricbuzz.

Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja deserve all the praise: Zaheer Khan

The southpaw, accompanied by Ravindra Jadeja, scored runs at a brisk pace and the duo added 222 runs for the sixth wicket in just 239 deliveries. The pair took full advantage of a tired English bowling unit and looked largely untroubled at the crease. The pair’s resurgent partnership revived the Indian innings, and they kept scoring over five runs per over in the second and third sessions, thanks to Pant’s madness at the crease.

The former Indian pacer also commended the pair’s efforts as they rescued India after the failure of the top order. “The pace at which Jadeja and Pant scored deserves all the praise. We got to see something different today, there is no doubt about it. The state at which India were and to recover from that and end at where they are now, it has to be commended,” Zaheer added
