After winning the toss and asking the home team to bat first Delhi Daredevils beat Sunrisers Hyderabad quite convincingly by 7 wickets with 11 balls remaining. JP Duminy & Co. ended SRH’s 4-match winning streak. Sunrisers are still on top of the table and the Daredevils have moved up to the no.3 spot with this win. Chasing 147 to win, DD had a decent start with the opener Quinton de Kock scoring 44 off just 31 balls. After a couple of quick dismissals of de Kock and Karun Nair, Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant took the side home with unbeaten knocks of 34 and 39 runs respectively.

JP Duminy was impressed with the performance of the youngsters. In the post-match presentation, the stand-in skipper said, “It had its ups and downs. The back part of our bowling innings, we did exceptionally well. They had a great start, a great platform, but the way we came back was exceptional. We bank on those two to strike for us (NCN and Morris). But even Shami bowled well. It was a collective bowling effort. The guys have been responding pretty well (to the horses for courses approach), understanding what the best XI is considering the opposition and conditions. That’s the mindset we are taking into every game. It’s all about the team in the end. It’s a short tournament and you have to put your best foot forward so we’ll see how it goes. The youngsters have been performing very well, it’s all about backing them. And they’ve been responding very well and it’s been a delight for me to watch them,”

The SRH skipper David Warner felt that they were 20-30 runs short and rightly so on the batting friendly wicket. “Not at all. We have won a couple of games batting first. We were 20-30 runs short. At 80/1 off 10 you expect to get at least 170. They bowled terrifically and our batters couldn’t get the job done today. I’m happy with that (the opening stand), but need a couple of guys to take responsibility to keep going. We’ll try and address that situation in the middle period of the innings and come back fresh. We’ve got fantastic support in Hyderabad and thanks to everyone for coming out and supporting us,”

Chris Morris with bowling figures of 1 for 19 was adjudged as the ‘Man of the Match’. He said, “A good day for us. The boys turned up beautifully, the break was helpful to charge our batteries. NCN ran in hard for today. I take my hat off to him for the way he steamed in. And Shami bowled well especially after the start they got. My job in the team is to bowl fast, and keep the run rate down. It’s very refreshing to be honest. No jokes, the bats are massive,”
