Pakistan Cricket team will be without its senior batsman Younis Khan withdrew from the first Test against West Indies. Younis took the decision after receiving advice from doctors to rest after he contracted dengue fever, Pakistan Cricket Board said Thursday. Pakistani selectors are expected to announce the Test squad on Friday.

The 38-year-old was infected by the mosquito-borne virus last month and was admitted to a local hospital in Karachi after his health got worse due to dehydration and high temperature. The illness forced him to miss the ceremony on September, 21 where Pakistan skipper Misbah ul Haq was handed over the Test mace by ICC Chief Executive Officer Dave Richardson.

“Younis has conveyed to the selection committee that he will not be fully fit and needs another ten-day rest to regain his strength after recovering from dengue fever,” a PCB spokesman told AFP.

The first Test which will be a day-night contest will begin from October 13 at Dubai. Younis, however, will be available for the second Test starting in Abu Dhabi on October 21. The stylish right hander, who is the highest Test scorer for Pakistan with 9456 in 108 Tests, scored an epic 218 in Pakistan’s Test at The Oval last month, helping them to draw the four-match series 2-2.

Pakistan has been very dominating in the ongoing tour. They have successfully whitewashed West Indies 3-0 in both the T20I series and ODI series. Their stupendous performance makes them the clear favorites ahead of the three-match Test series.
