You're one of the best opening partners I've had, says Chris Gayle to KL Rahul

Lavishing praise on his IPL teammate KL Rahul, Kings XI Punjab opener Chris Gayle said that his opening partner is one of the best openers he has played with in his career. Rahul and Gayle’s partnership at the top of the order is one of the few positives for KXIP in yet another disappointing season. The two were just the perfect partner for each other as they complemented each other remarkably well.

The duo, who also shared the dressing room for Royal Challengers Bangalore a couple of years ago, finished their IPL on a good note. The two impressed with the bat as Kings XI Punjab thrashed Chennai Super Kings by six wickets to end the season with an impressive win. Rahul smashed an explosive 36-ball 71 and added 108 runs with Gayle to make light work of the 171-run chase.

Gayle finished the season with 490 runs while Rahul piled up a staggering 593 runs to finish the season as Kings XI’s top run-scorer. Following the game against Chennai Super Kings, the two interviewed each other on the official IPL website where Gayle praised Rahul. In reply, Rahul recalled the older times when he saw the left-hander at the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

“You’re one of the best opening partners I’ve had. Our communication between the wickets was fantastic,” said Chris Gayle. In reply, Rahul said, “He (Gayle) saw me as a 21-year-old in RCB (Royal Challengers Bangalore). I’ve learned so much from him as an opening batsman. From then to now, he’s not said anything different. I’ve learned so much from him, and we’ve enjoyed playing together.”

Chris Gayle also wished luck for KL Rahul for the upcoming World Cup. With the Caribbean also being a part of West Indies’ World Cup squad, he said he is looking forward to seeing Rahul in the mega-event.

“[This season has] definitely been good for you, second consecutive year, you have been the top-scorer for Kings XI Punjab. I want to wish you good luck for the World Cup. Not against the West Indies. We are going to meet again in the World Cup,” said Chris Gayle.
