KL Rahul set the stage on fire while playing for Kings XI Punjab against Delhi Daredevils on Sunday and smashed a 14-ball half-century. It was the fastest fifty in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as the cricketer from Karnataka played some surreal shots to send the crowd into a frenzy. In the process, he went past Yusuf Pathan who held the record previously off 15 balls in 2014. However, he has now accepted the challenge of his brother Irfan Pathan to score a half-century off a mere 13 deliveries.

Yusuf Pathan created the record while playing for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) when he tore apart the bowlers of Sunrisers Hyderabad four years ago. This time around he will play for SRH itself who had bagged his services for the whopping amount of Rs 1.9 Crore in the auction earlier this year. The first game of the franchise is on Monday against the Rajasthan Royals who are making their return to the fray of the tournament.

Yusuf to complete Irfan’s wish

The brotherhood between Irfan Pathan and Yusuf Pathan is known to everyone. Soon after KL Rahul demolished the records on Sunday, Irfan congratulated him and cheekily challenged Yusuf to smash 1 13-ball fifty now in this season in his tweet. “KL Rahul outstanding innings. Fastest 50 in the ipl @iamyusufpathan bro let’s try for 13 balls now ?” he wrote in his tweet.

Yusuf is currently preparing for the opening game of SRH against RR on Monday but didn’t miss out on responding to a message from his brother. He accepted the challenge gleefully and also didn’t forget to congratulate Kl Rahul for his trailblazing knock. He also lauded Irfan for his brilliant commentary and hoped that he is enjoying his new role. “Tere liye 13-ball me bhi 50 bana neka try karenge Insha Allah bhai and well played @klrahul11 . Also, it’s lovely to hear you in the commentary box @IrfanPathan hope you’re enjoying the new role. @IPL,” Yusuf replied.
