Stylish Indian left-handed batsman Yuvraj Singh took very little time to pick his favorite captain. The choice given to him was between two of the greatest captains of the Indian team – Sourav Ganguly and MS Dhoni.

In a recent interview with the Radio Mirchi, Yuvraj answered many questions that circled around his life and career. The most interesting question was when he was asked who was the better captain that he played under. While most of the people have often played defensive and given a diplomatic answer to the question, Yuvraj Singh did not have any reservations.

Without wasting much time, he picked Sourav Ganguly to be the better skipper among the two legendary captains. It was under Ganguly that Yuvraj made his international debut. Sourav backed the left-handed batsman in his early days and gave him ample opportunities to flourish. One of the most iconic knocks of Yuvraj’s career came in the Natwest Series finals in 2002 under the leadership of Ganguly.

However, the contributions made by MS Dhoni cannot be overseen either. Yuvraj had the purple patch of his career when he played under Dhoni. He reached the peak of his career and achieved ultimate stardom when MS Dhoni was in-charge of the Indian team. In 2007, when Yuvraj hit 6 sixes in an over, MS Dhoni proudly stood at his corner.

Yuvraj emerged as the player of the tournament for India in the victorious ICC World Cup 2011 and it was Dhoni at the leadership pedestal then too. However, things turned sour after that and the camaraderie between the two star players came under the scrutiny. Whether this influenced Yuvraj to pick Sourav over Dhoni is uncertain.

However, as per the explanation given by Yuvraj, Sourav stood by the youngsters in their early days and he was fortunate to be one of them.

“I started my career under Sourav and I think he is the one who put this team together and supported players like myself, Ashish (Nehra), (Virender) Sehwag, Zaheer Khan and Harbhajan (Singh). So probably he would be the best captain,” Yuvraj Singh quoted.
