Shubman Gill has been doing the rounds in the Indian cricket ever since he became the Player of the Tournament in the 2018 U19 World Cup in New Zealand. He was rewarded with a spot in the Kolkata Knight Riders and he has already played three seasons for them in the Indian Premier League. Then in 2019, the Fazilka-born made his debut for Team India during the tour of New Zealand.

He played a couple of ODIs when Virat Kohli took a break after the first three games. Gill was thereafter included in a number of squads, but he couldn’t get into the playing eleven, somehow. The right-hander was included in India’s ODI squad for the three-match series against Australia. India conceded an unassailable 2-0 lead to the hosts after which Shubman got his chance.

Shubman Gill delighted to play for his country

He was roped in for the third and final ODI at the Manuka Oval in Canberra. The Young Turk replaced Mayank Agarwal in the eleven and opened alongside Shikhar Dhawan. After playing the game, Gill’s happiness knew no bounds. He uploaded a couple of pictures to express his joy and happiness. In one pic, he was seen, batting with Indian captain Virat Kohli.

In the second, he was seen, standing in a relaxed mode with his teammates, which also included debutant T Natarajan. He captioned the pictures and wrote, “Great feeling representing my country.”

In the meantime, former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh trolled Gill over one the pictures. Yuvraj, who retired from international cricket in 2019, hilariously reminded him the difference between playing for India and turning out for a local team.

Yuvraj replied to Shubman and wrote, “Indeed a pleasure batting alongside the great Virat Kohli! Maharaj jeb vicho hath kado India da match chal reha hai club da nahi. (Sir, please remove the hands from your pocket. You are playing for India, not for any local club).”

Here’s the screenshot of Yuvraj’s reply-

As far as the match was concerned, Gill scored 33 runs off 39 balls with three fours and a massive six. He played at a strike-rate of 84.62, impressing the commentators. He eventually perished to Ashton Agar while trying to play a sweep shot.
