The former Indian cricketer Akash Chopra is all praise for star leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal in his recent YouTube video. Chahal is being lauded by many cricket pundits for his 27 wickets a season haul with Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League 2022. He was tied with Royal Challengers Bangalore’s spinner Wanindu Hasaranga till the final match with 26 wickets each, the Sri Lankan star having a better average and economy rate. But Chahal managed to take a wicket on Hardik Pandya in the final match to win the prestigious Purple Cap award.

Chahal also made the record for most wickets by any spinner in a single season of the Indian Premier League. He is leading the most wickets chart for team India in T20 international matches with 68 wickets, just a wicket ahead of star pacer Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah is rested for the upcoming five-matches T20I series against South Africa and Chahal will be looking to extend this lead further by playing all five fixtures.

Yuzvendra Chahal is an amazing bowler: Aakash Chopra

The 31-year-old leg-spinner has represented India at the World Youth Chess Championship and fans have regularly witnessed commentators calling him grandmaster for taking important wickets in difficult situations. Now the famous commentator has praised Chahal for his bowling line variations and said it feels like the guy is a grandmaster.

“Yuzvendra Chahal is an amazing bowler. He bowls differently from everyone else, generally all leg-spinners doing well in T20s bowl more googlies and fewer leg-spinners and try to finish the ball within the three stumps. He (Chahal) varies his line so beautifully that you feel that the guy is a Grandmaster,” said Akash Chopra.

Rajasthan Royals management under the captaincy of Sanju Samson used Chahal in death overs as well and it worked really well for them. Chopra has highlighted that spinners bowl a fast delivery after getting a hit for a six on a slower one. But he feels that Chahal keeps his focus on bowling slow.

“Secondly, he bowls the ball slower and only a bowler who has the confidence can bowl slow, that he will bowl the ball slow and will not get hit, an odd six might be hit. Generally, a spinner becomes a fast bowler when he gets hit,” added Chopra.
