Former Pakistan spinner Saeed Ajmal stated that Zafar Gohar has all the talent to become his country’s next great spinner. Head coach and chief selector of Pakistan cricket team Misbah-ul-Haq said that he was looking for a suitable replacement for Yasir Shah as he was struggling to take wickets in the recent times. Ajmal feels that Gohar is the one Misbah is looking for and he is the perfect replacement for Yasir Shah.
Zafar Gohar has performed significantly well for Pakistan under 15 and under 19 squads. He has picked up 144 wickets in 39 First-class matches at an average of 28.56. He often confuses the batsmen with his deliveries.
Gohar represented Pakistan in a single ODI against England back in 2015. Playing for Central Punjab in the Quaid-E-Azam Trophy, Gohar shined for his side as he picked 38 wickets and was the third leading wicket-taker of the tournament. He was also named as the man of the tournament. Gohar is going to represent Islamabad United in the upcoming PSL-2020 as he was drafted in the silver category by the franchise.
Zafar Gohar set to work under Saeed Ajmal in PSL
Gohar is going to work under Ajmal in the PSL season as he was the bowling coach for Islamabad United. Gohar has performed well with the limited opportunities he got in the last season of PSL as he managed to pick three wickets in two games at an average of 19.33.
Ajmal firmly believes that Gohar is going to improve a lot under his supervision. Gohar has also represented Lahore Qalanders in the past. As he was currently grooming under one of the greatest spinners Ajmal, we can expect him to get back into the national side.
“We have a lot of hope in the performance of Zafar Gohar as well. As the bowling coach, I want to give Pakistan a great spinner in the form of Gohar. Pakistan needs a good left-arm spinner for Test cricket. Gohar has the ability to fill this gap,” Ajmal was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan.
