Zimbabwe announced their team for the upcoming series against Scotland, Netherlands and Sri Lanka. Veteran all-rounder Elton Chigumbura has been dropped from the team owing to a string of poor performances in the recent past which has seen him make just 41 runs in the last nine ODIs he played. He was, however, selected in the 15 member squad for the five-match ODI series against Afghanistan but ended up not playing a single game.
Fellow teammate Hamilton Masakadza has been on the favorable outcome of the selection committee as he has been picked in the squad. He too hasn’t been having eye-catching performances notching up just 66 runs in his last six ODIs. However, his innings of 146 off 131 balls for Zimbabwe A against Canada a few days ago landed him a place in the squad.
Masakadza has been in the midst of Zimbabwean cricket for over a decade now. The former captain and one of the leading run scorers for Zimbabwe will be looking for brighter pastures in the next few series. Chamunorwa Chibhabha has also been picked in the squad. The all-rounder who is making a comeback of sorts into the team will look to weigh in on his experience to put up riveting performances.
Zimbabwe will be led by Graeme Cremer and will play the first of the three series against Scotland on June 15 and 17 with two ODIs followed by a tour to Netherlands comprising three ODIs and winding it up with five ODIs and a Test match against Sri Lanka. The team for the Test will be announced at a later date.
Following is the fifteen member squad:
Graeme Cremer (c), Ryan Burl, Chamu Chibhabha, Tendai Chatara, Craig Ervine, Sikandar Raza, Hamilton Masakadza, Solomon Mire, Peter Moor, Christopher Mpofu, Tarisai Musakanda, Richard Ngarava, Donald Tiripano, Malcolm Waller, Sean Williams
