Zimbabwe, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are set to compete in One-Day International tri-series. Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka haven’t had a good 2017. The latter sunk deeper and deeper with a couple of series whitewashes and the famous ‘Tourwash.’ On the other hand, Bangladesh had a not so great but a decent year at the international level. They reached the semi-finals of the ICC Champions Trophy and won a Test match against Australia.
The series is expected to be competitive as none of the teams is in prime form. Bangladesh may have the home advantage but the conditions in Sri Lanka are not really different. With the new year, the teams will also be hoping for a change in fortunes. The weather is expected to play a role which is why the timings of the matches have been changed.
Usually, the day-night matches begin at 2.30 pm in the sub-continent. But the timings have been shifted and now the matches will begin at 12 noon. This was done due to the dew factor in Bangladesh which is experiencing very cold weather at the moment. This decision will benefit the three teams as it will ensure smooth conduct of the matches. Earlier, the timings of India-Sri Lanka ODI series were also changed for the same reason.
The tri-series will begin on January 15th and six matches will be played before the final on January 27th. All the matches will be played at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka. Zimbabwe will fly to Bangladesh on 10th January and play the first match against the hosts on 15th January. On the other hand, the Sri Lanka team will come to Bangladesh on 13th January and play their first match against Zimbabwe on 17th January.
After the conclusion of the tri-series, Bangladesh will play two Tests and two T20Is against Sri Lanka.
