Team Zimbabwe is all set to host the West Indies team for a two-match Test series this month. This will be the second tour for the West Indies team to the Zimbabwean soil in the last 12 months. They had previously toured Zimbabwe in November last year for a tri-series that involved Sri Lanka as the third team.
As per the recent reports in ESPNcricinfo, Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) has confirmed that they will be hosting West Indies for a short tour this month. The tour will only have two Test matches. The Test series will be Zimbabwe’s first Test since their one off Test against Sri Lanka earlier this year. The dates of the two Test matches have been finalized as well.
The first Test will be played from October 21 to October 25. The second and the final Test of the series will be played from October 29. Both the matches will be played at the Queens’ Sports Club in Bulawayo. Also, there will be a warm-up match for West Indies team ahead of the series proper. The warm-up match will be played on October 15.
Return of Taylor, Jarvis
While the news of the Test series in itself is a big new for team Zimbabwe, there is something bigger that the team is looking forward to. The reports suggest that the Test series could see the possible return of veteran players Brendan Taylor and Kyle Jarvis. Both Jarvis and Taylor had quit playing for Zimbabwe citing personal and financial reasons.
They had signed the Kolpak deals. Now, they have been convinced to opt out of their Kolpak deals early and return to the national side following a structure revamp of Zimbabwe cricket. Tatenda Taibu, the former cricketer and the current convener of selectors, was the one who initiated the discussions with Taylor and Jarvis. ZC MD Faisal Hasnain also assured about the new governance and the financial model to the two cricketers.
