The second reverse-clash of the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) witnessed a thrilling encounter between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Delhi Capitals (DC) at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. While Delhi was entering the tournament with a loss against Mumbai Indians, the Royals were filled with confidence after a clinical win against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in their last fixture.

With an intention of taking revenge for the previous loss against Capitals, Rajasthan Royals had a dream start to the match as their prime pacer Jofra Archer dismissed the dangerous Delhi Capitals opening batsman Prithvi Shaw off the very first ball of the match. It was a magnificent delivery by Archer with a lovely seam position and just short of a length on the off stump. Shaw tried to push at it, and it took the inside edge and smashed onto the middle stump. Shaw was followed by Ajinkya Rahane who looked out of touch and went back to the pavilion after a below-par score of 2 off 9 deliveries.

Though Shikhar Dhawan and Shreyas Iyer tried to rebuild the innings after smashing 57 off 33 and 53 off 43 respectively, the franchise run stopped at an average score of 161 at the loss of 7 wickets in the 20-overs. The middle-order of the squad after Iyer failed to impress and didn’t capitalize on the lead provided by the top-order. As far as the bowling is concerned, Archer performed extremely well for his team as he bowled a spell of 3/19 in four overs. Jaydev Unadkat took two scalps. Kartik Tyagi and Shreyas Gopal took one wicket each to restrict the opposition to 161.

Rajasthan batting line-up fails to impress

In reply to the runs posted by Capitals on the board, Rajasthan had a good start as both of their openers namely Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler started firing from the very first ball. However, the team soon started crumbling; they lost their two wickets of Buttler and Smith within 4 overs. The bowlers of the DC made an amazing comeback as they took the wickets at regular intervals to ensure that no partnership was formed at the batting end.

Stokes emerged as the highest run-getter for Royals with 41 runs off 35 balls. However, no other batsman took up the responsibility and thus, RR again registered a loss against DC by 13 runs. New addition Tushar Deshpande and Anrich Nortje took two wickets each for Capitals while Kagiso Rabada, Ravichandran Ashwin and Axar Patel had one each to their name.
