Abhinav Bali had just started to settle at the big stage when he fell into the match fixing trap. After having played for Delhi and Himachal Pradesh in the domestic cricket, Bali found himself in the Kings XI Punjab IPL squad. He had earlier played for the Delhi Giants franchise in the now-defunct Indian Cricket League (ICL).

Bali was found guilty of match fixing and spot fixing by the ACU of the BCCI. He was banned for one year after the tournament concluded in the year 2012. Much like the other cricketers who were caught up with him, Abhinav Bali was found guilty of not reporting the approaches made to him by the bookies.
