10 Newcomers to watch out for in the World T20 2016

As we get closer to the World T20, the preparations of teams are in full swing. The buzz surrounding the marquee event keeps increasing with every passing day. Teams will look to make a mark and produce some stellar performances in front of the cricket loving public of India and the world. Here’s a look at 10 newcomers who could light up the global event and make a name for themselves. 1. Jasprit Bumrah: (Photo Source: BCCI) Bumrah has made a name for himself with his unorthodox action and ability to bowl yorkers. Skipper MS Dhoni called him the find of the Australia series and the fast bowler has done consistently well to justify the faith shown in him by the Indian selectors. His ODI debut and the T20I performances thereafter have been exceptional as he continues to impress with every match. He has played 54 T20 matches and picked up 62 wickets while his 7 T20Is have produced 10 wickets. 2. Hardik Pandya: (Photo Source: BCCI) In his short international stint, has proved that he has the potential to become the all-rounder India has been looking for since a very long time. The team management is rightly showing faith in him by giving him maximum opportunities. The right-arm bowler generated good pace with the ball and is a fearless stroke player. In the 2015 IPL his performances under pressure enabled the Mumbai Indians to win some crunch games. His 45 T20s have produced 940 runs and 31 wickets while his 7 T20Is have yielded 60 runs and 4 wickets. 3. Mustafizur Rahman: Bangladesh cricketer Mustafizur Rahman. (Photo by MUNIR UZ ZAMAN/AFP/Getty Images) In 2015, a once-in-a-generation talent called Mustafizur Rahman emerged from Satkhira in Khulna located on the south-western edge of Bangladesh. He shocked India and then ensured his 13 wickets in that series wasn’t a fluke by keeping South Africa under check. His orthodox left-arm fast skills are as effective as his brilliant slower balls and cutters. He has played 18 T20s and 8 T20Is taking 24 and 10 wickets respectively. Bangladesh will heavily depend on him throughout the competition. 4. Kagiso Rabada: (Photo Source: BCCI) The South African bowled a fantastic final over in the first ODI of the 2015 series against India in Kanpur and rose to fame. He defended 11 runs against an experienced campaigner like MS Dhoni, got the Indian skipper’s wicket and proved why he is ranked amongst the most promising fast bowlers in world cricket. In the recent Test series against England at home, he produced some incredibly hostile spells and gave a glimpse of his vast potential. Rabada’s 18 T20s have produced 23 wickets while his 10 T20Is have accounted for 12 wickets. 5. Jason Roy: Jason Roy. (© Getty Images) The English man is a fearless opening batsman who loves to dictate terms to the opposition bowlers. In 2014, Roy made the leap from a prodigiously talented but erratic young cricketer to a consistent match-winner. The transformation was particularly evident in the NatWest T20 Blast, where he struck 677 runs at 48.35 apiece – the highest tally in the competition. A regular member of England’s limited overs side, the right-hander has scored 104 runs from 8 T20Is while his 104 T20s have produced an impressive 2560 runs. 6. Sam Billings: Sam Billings. (© Getty Images) Sam Billings is an inventive cricketer and fiercely-competitive wicket-keeper batsman who made his England debut against New Zealand at Edgbaston in 2015. He was a part of a new-look England side committed to adventurous cricket to banish the depression of a failed and conservative 2015 World Cup campaign. Billings can play as a specialist batsman and is brilliant in the closing overs of an innings. The right-hander has played 67 T20s scoring 1168 runs while his 6 T20Is have produced 99 runs. 7. Adam Zampa: Adam Zampa of Australia. (Photo by MARTY MELVILLE/AFP/Getty Images) The Australian leg-spinner whose father Darren played for New South Wales Country, Adam Zampa was chosen in Australia’s squad for the Under-19 World Cup in 2010. Zampa progressed steadily in NSW, earning his first-class debut in November 2012 and subsequently appearing for the Blues limited overs side and the Sydney Thunder in the BBL. He now plays for the Melbourne Stars and his performances have been impressive. He has 28 wickets from as many T20 matches and is yet to make his T20I debut. 8. Sharjeel Khan: Pakistan cricketer Sharjeel Khan. (Photo by MUNIR UZ ZAMAN/AFP/Getty Images) Sharjeel Khan was a part of the Pakistan squad for the 2014 WorldT20, however, failed to get a game. The left-handed opening batsman had a memorable 2016 PSL where he hammered the only hundred of the competition. His team Islamabad United eventually won the inaugural edition of the PSL after entering the final courtesy Khan’s ton in a knockout match. He picked for the ODI and T20I squads against Sri Lanka in the UAE in December 2013. His 3 T20Is have produced 102 runs while he has scored 1548 runs from 58 T20s. 9. Carlos Brathwaite: (Photo Source: Twitter) The West Indian all-rounder made headlines fetching a high price during the recent IPL auctions. This was after his splendid performances in Australia made everyone take notice of his talent. At the Boxing Day game in Melbourne, he helped Darren Bravo stem a first innings collapse with a 59 on debut at No. 8. In the rain-affected Sydney Test, he struck a lively 71-ball 69. The powerfully built Brathwaite has played just 2 T20Is scoring 2 runs and taken 1 wicket. His 37 T20s though have produced 307 runs and 33 wickets. These numbers are sure to improve considering the skills he possesses. 10. Milinda Siriwardana: Milinda Siriwardana. (© Ishara S.KODIKARA/AFP/Getty Images) The defending champions Sri Lanka will be keeping a close eye on the performances of the hard-hitting all-rounder Milinda Siriwardana. A busy middle-order left-handed batsman and a capable left-arm spinner, Siriwardana broke through to the national side in 2015 after several years of encouraging domestic returns. On his T20I debut, he hammered 35 off 18 balls and announced his arrival. His 10 T20Is have produced 174 runs and 5 wickets while his 81 T20s have accounted for 1139 runs and 40 wickets.
