Joe Root being a seasoned international cricketer, the one factor which would elude him is an IPL debut. Root debuted his T20I match for England in 2012 and has not been consistent in the 11. He last played in a T20I match in 2019 against Pakistan for the last time since now.

Root had a decent career in T20I with an average of 35.72 and a strike rate of 126.30. He confidently expected to get picked in any of the IPL teams after his performance in the 2016 T20 World Cup. Being a marquee player and even though reducing his base price from 2 cr to 1.5 cr, he still failed to attract bids in 2018.

After 2018, he has not yet entered the auction pool. As per recent reports, his interest to appear in the most-watched cricket league has not faded away, and is about to give a try in the 2022 auction and could hopefully go his way with the arrival of 2 new teams.
