Since its early days in cricket, Bangladesh is known to produce good all-rounders. And, Nasir Hossain happens to be the newest addition to the list of their outstanding all-rounders. Nasir is a right-handed batsman who can tweak accurate off-breaks whenever the team requires. He is very versatile and can bat in different spots in the batting line up depending on the match situation. But, it is his fielding ability which has perhaps become the most exciting part of his game. It has attracted him a lot of attention. He is one of the most exciting young all-rounders in Bangladesh who could be a long-term prospect for the national team in all forms.
1. Born on:
Nasir Hossain was born on 30th November 1991. He was born in Rangpur and grew up in Bogra city of the Rajshahi division, Bangladesh.
2. Inclined towards cricket since teens:
Nasir Hossain had a keen interest in cricket in his growing years and joined Bangladesh’s sporting school Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan (BKSP) as a 13-year-old to nurture his dream of becoming a cricketer.
3. Promising youngster:
At the age of 16, Nasir Hossain was drafted into the Bangladesh U-19 squad. He played in the 2008 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup.
4. National debut:
Nasir Hossain made his One Day International (ODI) debut in August 2011 against Zimbabwe. He scored 63 against Zimbabwe which is the highest by a Bangladeshi on ODI debut. Two months later, he made his Test debut against the West Indies just a month before his birthday.
5. Maiden Test hundred:
Nasir Hossain scored his maiden Test hundred against Sri Lanka at Galle on March 11, 2013.
6. Breaks teeth of his opposition bowlers:
In his debut series, Nasir accidentally injured Zimbabwe fast bowler Keegan Meth. Nasir drove a delivery from Meth straight back and the bowler was unable to get out of the way. Unluckily, he was struck in the mouth which knocked out three teeth.
7. A sought after player:
When the Bangladesh Premier League was started in 2012, he was bought in the auction by Khulna Royals Bengal for 200,000 USD. He was the highest paid Bangladeshi that season. He is playing for the Dhaka Dynamites in the 3rd edition of BPL.
8. Central contract:
In April 2012, he received a central contract by BCB for the first time and currently, has a ‘Grade B’ contract.
9. A gold medal in Asian games:
Nasir Hossain was a part of the 13-man Bangladesh squad that played in the 2010 Asian Games in late November. The team played Afghanistan in the final and won by five wickets, gaining the country’s first gold medal at the Asian Games.
10. Nickname:
Nasir Hossain is often called as “The Wall of Bangladesh” by his teammates for his extraordinary fielding.
11. Domestic circuit:
At the domestic level, Nasir has represented Barisal Division, Chittagong Division, Rajshahi Division and Rangpur Division.
