Peter Handscomb, the right-handed wicket-keeper batsman, is among the most promising young cricketers in Australia. Handscomb has been one of the top performers for his state side Victoria. A highly talented middle order batsman and an agile wicket-keeper, Handscomb has given many noteworthy performances in the longer as well as the shortest format of the game.

1.Born on:

Peter Handscomb was born on April 26, 1991, Melbourne, Australia.

2. English descent:

Handscomb parent originally belongs to England. The cricketer also holds a British passport. But, he has has lived all of his life in Melbourne and his allegiance is with his country of birth.

3. Opts for Cricket over Tennis:

Handscomb was a good at tennis in his early days and played the sport at junior level. But, he later chose to stick to cricket eventually.

4. A highly talented rookie:

He has represented Victoria both at under-17 and under-19 level and impressed right on his debut appearance as he made a grinding stubborn 71 against Queensland in an early season Gabba pitch at Brisbane which had plenty of assistance for the fast bowlers.

5. Part of Australia Under-19 cricket:

Handscomb represented the Australia U-19s side in 2009. He was a part of the side that faced off against the Sri Lanka U-19 outfit at home in 2009.

6. Cricket in England:

The 25-year-old has featured for the English club Tring Park. He has also played quite a few matches for Leicestershire in the Second XI Championship.

7. Versatile:

In spite of being born and brought up playing in fast paced and bouncy tracks of Australia Handscomb unlike many Australian cricketers deals with spin rather well and comfortably.

8. Thrives after initial struggles:

In the 2014/15 season, Handscomb displayed solid temperament to amass 697 runs at an average of 53.91 which including 3 centuries. He tasted this success after grinding at this level initially for the first two years without any significant success.

9. Maiden Sheffield Shield ton:

Handscomb hit his maiden first-class ton against South Australia in Sheffield Shield matches in February 2012 scoring 113 runs at the beautiful Adelaide Oval.

 

10. Heroic knock:

Handscomb also has a T20 century to his name. In the 4th season of Big Bash League, he smashed a belligerent 103 not out for the Melbourne Stars against the Perth Scorchers at the MCG, carrying his team single-handedly in a thrilling run-chase to register a famous win.

11. A skilled man behind the stumps:

Handscomb is quite equipped behind the stumps and holds the distinction for the highest number of dismissals a the Big Bash League (13) by a wicket-keeper which came this season.

 

12. Down on luck:

He was picked in the Australian senior squad in the 2015 ODI series against old rivals England during the later part of the bilateral encounter but is yet to find his first ever opportunity to represent Australia in the playing eleven.

13. Enters IPL:

The 25-year-old talented youngster was signed by the Rising Pune Super Giants (RPS), one of the two debutant franchise in Indian Premiere League (IPL) 2016.

14. Highly rated:

RPS Head coach Stephen Fleming, the great Kiwi captain and a classy opening batsman himself, rates Peter Handscomb very highly marking him as one of the players to watch out for in the future.

15. County stint:

Handscomb got a chance in county cricket in 2015 and was registered by Gloucestershire as a second overseas player (despite that British passport).
