Over the years, cricket has witnessed some expensive overs. Attacking batting and huge scores have fascinated cricket fans to no end. An over which witnesses massive hits and produces most runs is always memorable for the fans and the batsman who made it possible. Though, the same can’t be said of the bowler who is at the receiving end of such drubbing. Here is a look at 11 of the most humongous overs ever witnessed in professional cricket. 11. Raiphi Gomez (Kerala) – 35 runs v Hyderabad: Raiphi Gomez. (Photo Source: TimesofIndia) Kerala’s Raiphi Gomez is a batting all-rounder. The right-hander had a fantastic outing against Hyderabad’s Ravi Teja. In a List A game in Chennai in 2010, Teja was hammered for 5 sixes and 1 four by the dashing Gomez. The bowler also conceded a wide making it 35 for the over. 10. Thisara Perera (Sri Lanka) – 35 v South Africa: Sri Lankan cricketer Thisara Perera. It was an ODI match and the bowler at the receiving end was left-arm spinner, Robin Peterson. The over read 6, 6, WD, 6, 6, 4, 6 and the left-hander made his presence felt in a grand style. 9. Freddie Flintoff’s unprovoked mutterings fired Yuvraj Singh up in the famous WorldT20 match in 2007. Yuvi vented his ire on the right-arm pacer and went on to score a blistering half-century off just 12 balls which is the record fastest fifty. 8. Herschelle Gibbs (South Africa) – 36 v Netherlands: South African batsman Herschelle Gibbs. By doing so, Gibbs made a charity one million dollars richer after the Johnny Walker Group had promised the amount if any player accomplished the feat. The venue was St. Kitts and the unfortunate bowler DLS van Bunge. 7. Ravi Shastri (Bombay) – 36 v Baroda: Ravi Shastri. It was only the second instance of its kind in first-class cricket. The unfortunate victim of the assault was slow left-arm orthodox bowler Tilak Raj. 6. The left-handed genius was playing as captain of Nottinghamshire against Glamorgan at St. Helen’s in Swansea; the unfortunate bowler was Malcolm Nash. This tally of 36 runs in an over broke a 57-year-old record of 34 runs, held by Nottinghamshire’s Ted Alletson. 5. Chris Gayle (RCB) – 37 v KTK: Chris Gayle. The over included a no-ball and read 6, 6+NB, 4, 4, 6, 6, 4. RCB was playing at its home ground in Bangalore and Gayle entertained the home fans to no end. 4. Scott Styris (Sussex) – 38 v Gloucestershire: Playing for Gloucestershire the right-arm fast bowler James Fuller was hammered for 32 by his countryman Scott Styris who was representing Sussex. Fuller conceded 38 runs at Hove in 2012 as he bowled two no-balls, one of which went for four byes and the other was dispatched to the boundary by Styris, who also hit two other fours and three sixes in the same over. 3. Andrew Flintoff (Lancashire) – 38 v Surrey: Andrew Flintoff of Lancashire. The end result of 38 was a result of 2 extra runs for a No-Ball under the ECB regulations for the match. Andrew Flintoff enjoyed a great time against his former England teammate by smashing him to all parts of the ground. 2. Elton Chigumbura (Sheikh Jamal) – 39 v Abahani Ltd: Elton Chigumburaa. The all-rounder smashed 32 off his bat in an over that added 39 runs to his teams tally. The bowler was Alauddin Babu, the venue Dhaka and the over read 4NB, WD, 6, 4, 6, 4, 6, WD, 6. 1. Hardik Pandya – 39: Hardik Pandya. Baroda’s Hardik Pandya had a memorable outing against Delhi in Vadodara in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tourney. Pandya hit five sixes and a four off medium-pacer Akash Sudan, who also gave away four byes and a no-ball to take the tally to 39 for the over.
