Australia’s recent batting sensation D’Arcy Short had a phenomenal Big Bash League (BBL) 2017/18. Short amassed 504 runs in 10 innings for the Hobart Hurricanes and overtook Shaun Marsh’s tally of most runs in a single edition of the tournament. Following his recent success, the opener was selected in Australia’s team for the T20 tri-series against England and New Zealand beginning from 3rd February.

Short was a hot topic amongst the franchises of the Indian Premier League and was promptly snapped up by the Rajasthan Royals for INR 4 crores following a bidding war with Delhi Daredevils. In a recent interview, the left-handed batsman showed his excitement about playing in the IPL and is quite eager to embrace his new experience. The 27-year-old talked about the IPL being his first experience in India.

Short is keen on learning from players such as Steve Smith, Ajinkya Rahane, Ben Stokes and Jos Butler. The Rajasthan Royals batsman also spoke about his excitement for learning the culture of India and Rajasthan as he travels to India for the first time in his career. “It feels great to be going to the IPL; it will be my first time to India so I am excited to learn about the people, the culture and of course playing with Rajasthan Royals”, said Short.

There’s pressure every time: Short

Short was brilliant in the ongoing Big Bash League, the southpaw managed his innings wonderfully. He looked for boundaries early on during the powerplay, he was keen on rotating the strike rate in the middle overs and he tried to be aggressive in the final stage of the innings. D’Arcy Short has also earned a two-year extension with the Hobart Hurricanes following his great form though Short knows that scoring runs in India is a different ball game whole together. “The IPL is about scoring runs for the Royals and hopefully be there at the pointy end of the tournament.”

The Southpaw talked about scoring runs in the middle overs, according to him batting in the middle overs has been a focus for him throughout the tournament and he will look to perform in India by seeking opportunities to interact with players who have played in India earlier. “Batting through the middle overs has been a focus for me throughout BBL|07 and it has contributed to my big scores in the tournament,” he said adding, “Obviously playing in India presents different challenges so I’ll certainly be talking to my teammates – both local and international – who have played in India and look at ways to make sure I’m batting deep into the innings.”
