The 15th edition of the Asia Cup is upon the cricketing world and set to commence on the 27th of August with a clash between Sri Lanka and Afghanistan at the Dubai International Stadium. The six-team tournament, which was originally set to be hosted by Sri Lanka, was moved to UAE following the former’s withdrawal due to the political and financial crisis in the island nation.

India, the record seven-time winners, and the defending champions head into the tournament as heavy favorites to lift the coveted trophy this term again. Although the Indian team suffered major setbacks due to the injuries to the star bowling duo of Hrashal Patel and Jasprit Bumrah, they still boast of a formidable squad. The continental tournament will act as a litmus test for teams eyeing the T20 World Cup later this year.  With the competition for a place in the Indian squad at an all-time high, we look at-

3 India players who got a look-in for Asia Cup but might be ignored for T20 WC

Avesh Khan made his debut for the Indian side in the T20I series against the Windies earlier this year. Following his excellent outing in the IPL 2022, where he scalped 18 wickets for the newly inaugurated Lucknow Super Giants, he was picked up for the home T20I series against South Africa in June.

The pacer has been given an extended run into the team and has impressed on a few occasions, but his game is marred by inconsistency and has lacked penetration at crucial junctures for the Men in Blue. He has featured in 13 T20Is for the national team, returning with a poor tally of 11 wickets to his name.

The right arm-quick has been named in the squad for the upcoming Aisa Cup and will likely feature for the team in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel. But once the bowling duo returns from their injury, Avesh Khan is unlikely to make the cut for the T20 WC squad with Arshdeep Singh and Deepak Chahar competing for a place in the squad.
