The English batsman Alex Hales was picked as a replacement for David Warner in the last season, who had been banned from competitive cricket for one year for orchestrating the ball-tampering scandal just a month before the tournament. To his national side, he has been a very good addition and till date, the only English batsman to score a century in T20 Internationals.

Hales was initially picked in the 2015 IPL season by Mumbai Indians as a cover for the injured all-rounder Corey Anderson. However, he ended his short stint without making a single appearance. In 2018, he got his first game against Rajasthan Royals and scored 45 in a winning effort.

Warner is most likely to be back for the Sunrisers this time around and with Williamson in the red-hot display of batting in the last season, Hales can find it difficult to find a place in the playing XI. Although he has shown tremendous ability, Hales is inclined to miss out on a lot of games when David Warner returns to the scheme of things.
