In a dramatic turn of events, Virat Kohli has decided to step down as the Test captain of the national side. He was the architect of India’s dominance in the format. Under his leadership, Team India went on to become the best side in the world after slipping down the ICC rankings.
In 68 games, Kohli went on to win 40 Test matches for Team India. There is no doubt that he will go down as the “greatest” Indian Test captain. His captaincy never affected his performance as a batter and he lead his team from the front.
However, it is now time for the management to search for a new captain. As Kohli has set up the platform, the new Test captain will be in a better position as all the resources are available to him. Let us have a look at the top three players who can replace him as the Test captain of India:
3. Rishabh Pant
Rishabh Pant is one of the best wicketkeeper-batter in the game going around. He has an attacking style of play that entertains the fans. His fearless approach to the game is quite similar to that of Kohli’s.
As Pant is young, he should be given the chance to lead the team. Over the years, he will eventually become the captain of the side. Well, it will be more logical to name him as the skipper of the side.
Pant has scored centuries in difficult conditions. During the recently concluded Test series against South Africa, he smashed a brilliant century while others failed. There is no doubt that Pant has the right temperament to lead the team, especially with the likes of Kohli and Rohit around him.
