The Indian Premier League is the grandest T20 tourney of the world where the international stars team up with Indian players in an eight-city franchise-based tournament. It is the dream of every upcoming player to become a part of this tournament and among all the teams, Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore are the most popular teams in the IPL.
Not only do they have the biggest fan bases but they even have a huge market value. Besides, great Indian T20 players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni are a part of these franchises. While almost all the players have played for multiple franchises in the league, only three players till date have played for Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore and Chennai Super Kings in the competition.
The following are the three players who have been a part of the three elite franchises:
1. Parthiv Patel
The wicket-keeper batsman from Gujarat, Parthiv Patel was the first player to achieve this unique feat. He was a part of the Chennai Super Kings squad in 2008 and the franchise retained him for three seasons. His performances dipped over the years however, he scored 526 runs for the Super Kings and even won the championship with them in 2010.
Royal Challengers Bangalore signed him in 2014 and the left-handed opener scored 205 runs at an average of 20.50 for the Bangalore-based franchise. He returned to the team in 2018 and has been an integral part of the team.
When he was away from Royal Challengers Bangalore between 2014 and 2018, he played three seasons for Mumbai Indians. Patel won two championships with Mumbai during those three years.
2. Tim Southee
New Zealand’s fast bowler, Tim Southee made his IPL debut as a part of the Chennai Super Kings team in 2011. Chennai won the championship that year and Southee picked up 4 wickets in 5 matches for them. The right-arm pacer had an economy rate of 8.73 hence, the team management released him from the team.
He had to wait for three years before earning his second IPL contract as Rajasthan Royals snapped him up in 2014. Mumbai Indians signed him in 2016 and Southee won the title with them in 2017. He was their lead pacer in 2016 with 9 wickets in 11 matches.
After leaving Mumbai Indians, the vice-captain of New Zealand became a part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore. Unfortunately, he did not achieve much success with the Virat Kohli-led outfit as he could scalp only 6 wickets in 2 seasons. He went unsold in IPL Auction 2020.
3. Karn Sharma
Billed by many as the lucky charm in the IPL, Karn Sharma is the only player who has reached the final match of IPL playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings. Very few fans may know that Bangalore was the first team of Karn and although he played just one match for them, Bangalore finished as the runners-up that year.
He played a few seasons for Sunrisers Hyderabad before becoming a part of Mumbai Indians in 2017. Karn was the premier leg-spinner of Mumbai as he picked up 13 wickets in 9 matches with his best figures being 4/16 as Mumbai lifted their third IPL title.
Chennai Super Kings grabbed him services next and Sharma lifted the trophy in the yellow jersey as well. He has been playing for Chennai since 2018. MS Dhoni and co. retained him for the 2020 season as well.
