Chennai Super Kings is one of the most successful teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Led by former Indian skipper, MS Dhoni, the franchise has won the title three times, second-most after Mumbai Indians. Until the 2020 edition, CSK was the only team to qualify for the knockout stages of the cash-rich league each and every season in which they played.

However, the impeccable record changed when the team failed to qualify for the playoffs last season in the United Arab Emirates. They ended as the seventh-rank side in the league stages with only six wins from their 14 matches. In the 2021 edition, the franchise would be expecting better results.

After adding some players from the IPL 2021 auction, CSK looks like one of the firm favourites for the upcoming edition. And, not just because of their squad, there are specifics of this team that makes them strong contenders.

Three reasons why CSK can win the title in IPL 2021:

1. Settled spin-attack for Indian conditions

Anyone who has followed MS Dhoni’s style of captaincy is completely aware of the fact that he is a master of captaincy when it comes to managing spin bowlers. The legendary wicketkeeper has led the Indian team and CSK to several heights, but one common factor in those triumphs was the availability of quality spinners.

This year, CSK has a rounded spin attack which would relish under MSD’s leadership. Moeen Ali, the England spin-bowling all-rounder, was added to the franchise for INR 7 crores. Ali has a great T20 record with notable contributions with both bat and ball. Another addition to the franchise was Krishnappa Gowtham, a talented off-spinner with big-hitting capabilities.

These were some of the right-arm off-spinners. But, CSK has the experience of leg-spinners as well. With Imran Tahir and Karn Sharma in their ranks, Chennai has got some quality there as well. To add to that, there are Ravindra Jadeja and Mitchell Santner, who are renowned T20 bowlers and add to the variation of CSK with left-arm spin bowling options. With their four matches on spin-friendly conditions in Delhi, the CSK spinners would be licking their lips.
