Virat Kohli is the most consistent player in world cricket at the moment, by far. His consistency has increased leaps and bounds over the years and he is well on his way to greatness. His conversation rate of 55.56 has him on the number four spot of the best conversation rates of all time in Test Cricket and Sarfaraz is nowhere near to it. Virat’s unique yet an easy habit of altering his playing style according to the situation and that is because of his desire to win.

The Australia and England tours are prime examples of his ability to exhibit himself in different gears. Kohli hadn’t scored runs in England and James Anderson was his nemesis during the 2014 tour. After the five-match Test series, he was the highest run-getter (almost 600 runs when the second highest was not even close) and didn’t give his wicket even once to Anderson. Come Australia, his Perth century is termed as one of the greatest till date for the way he curbed his instincts.

Even though Sarfaraz comes down a bit lower in the order, he cannot be seen adjusting his game plan as per the situation. His technique and playing style is suited for a final flourish but is not a safe approach for building an innings after an early collapse. He should take the lead when the team is struggled and can make some last minute changes to the batting line-up by promoting himself.

Instead, Sarfaraz came out to bat at number eight for unknown reasons when only he has the ability to arrest the collapse. Despite coming so low, he managed to score 41 runs and Pakistan crossed the 200-run mark. Imagine what would’ve happened if he walked out at six or even seven?

Consistency is the key to success in a sport like a cricket. A captain is often judged on how well his team does and it is him who shows the way. Even the decision making is the most important trait in the leader which even Virat Kohli is improving himself in. Meanwhile, the aforementioned points could help Sarfaraz become a better, if not the best captain in the near future.
