Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) vice-captain Suresh Raina’s departure from the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), slated to begin on September 19 across three venues namely Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah, raised a lot of eyebrows in the cricket world.

After 13 members of the CSK contingent, including two players namely Deepak Chahar and Ruturaj Gaikwad, tested positive for the novel coronavirus, Raina packed his bags and returned back to India citing personal reasons. It was a massive blow for the three-time champion Super Kings as Raina not only formed an integral part of team’s batting line-up but also essayed the role of vice-captain and captain in case MS Dhoni was unavailable.

Though CSK have not yet named a replacement for the 33-year-old southpaw, the team will have to decide on a suitable vice-captain who has experience and ability to lead the team if such a situation arises.

Here’s a list of 3 potential vice-captaincy options for CSK in IPL 2020: –

1. Dwayne Bravo

The West Indies superstar can emerge as an appropriate vice-captain for the Yellow Army. Dwayne Bravo has the experience of leading West Indies which can come in handy if he needs to lead CSK in IPL 2020. Bravo captained West Indies in one Test and seven ODI’s before permanently taking charge in February 2013.

He won 16 ODIs in 36 games and also led West Indies in six T20I, winning three. The all-rounder was sacked from his position as the captain in late 2014 owing to a fallout with the West Indies Cricket Board.

The 36-year-old’s association with Chennai Super Kings has been long standing. He joined CSK in 2011 and has been a regular feature in the team’s playing XI since then. Over the years, the Trinidadian cricketer has become one of the main faces of the franchise along with captain MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina.
