Between 2007 and 2009, Australia stood host for the Beach Cricket Tri-Nations featuring retired cricketers across the globe. England, West Indies, New Zealand and South Africa were the teams other than the Aussies who took part across the three editions. This competition was created and sponsored by Australia’s XXXX Gold beer brand. Allan Border, Graham Gooch, Sir Courtney Walsh, Martin Crowe and Shaun Pollock acted as captains for their respective nations in this Beach Cricket Tri-Nations.

Sir Curtly Ambrose, Denis Lillee, Sir Richard Hadlee, Graeme Hick, Sir Viv Richards, Allan Donald, Mark Waugh, Lance Klusener, Stephen Fleming and Dean Jones were some of the reputed names who featured in this competition. Glenelg Beach in Adelaide, Maroubra Beach in Sydney, Scarborough Beach in Perth and Coolangatta Beach in Gold Coast were hosting venues for the three tournaments.

Talking about the rules, the matches will be 8 overs-a-side matches with each team consisting of six players. All the six players will bowl an over each and the players to bowl the final two overs will be decided by the captain. Similarly, the six players will be divided into three pairs and each of them will play two overs. The pair to play the last over will be decided by the skipper of the batting team. If a batsman gets out, the non-striker will take the charge and five runs will be deducted.

However, the batsman dismissed will continue to play until the pair’s quota of two overs gets completed. Graeme Hick held the highest individual score for his 81 in the 2008 competition. In the round 1 game against Australia, he scored 57 runs while batting with his partner Robin Smith and later scored 24 more runs. Later, during the 4th round match against New Zealand, Graeme Hick smashed six sixes in an over.
