46 million people interacted on Facebook during the World T20, Virat Kohli most mentioned player

The World T20 2016 concluded with both the Men and Women’s teams from the West Indies lifting the trophy in Kolkata on the 3rd of April. It was not just the final that got attention from fans around the world but there were lot of interactions on all major social media platforms about the World T20 while it was underway. Facebook today released numbers which confirm that more than 46 million people interacted on the platform during the WT20. The tournament started on March 8th and was played among 16 Men’s and 10 Women’s teams and at the end of it proved to be the most exciting T20 tournament till date.

Among matches that drew the most attention, the India v Pakistan game at Kolkata stands at the top with 8.2 million people talking about it. While the World T20 final between England and West Indies saw 6.1 million people engage  over it on Facebook. Another astonishing figure is the number of video views registered during the course of the tournament; it’s believed that over 180 million video views were recorded on the videos posted by the ICC and team Facebook pages.

Indian batting star and the Player of the Tournament Virat Kohli tops the most mentioned players during the World T20 list and is followed by skipper MS Dhoni and former Pakistan skipper Shahid Afridi. The dashing West Indian opener Chris Gayle, Indian opener Rohit Sharma, all-rounders Hardik Pandya and Yuvraj Singh, attacking Pakistan middle order batsman Umar Akmal, Bangladesh batting mainstay Tamim Iqbal and England’s leading run-scorer in the World T20 Joe Root occupy the remaining spots in the top ten.

Among the Women players Pakistan’s Sana Mir is right at the top, Jahan Alam of Bangladesh, West Indies World T20 winning skipper Stefanie Taylor, Indian captain Mithali Raj and the runners up Aussie skipper Meg Lanning form the top 5 most mentioned Women’s cricketers list.

Facebook had also launched the profile frames for display pictures where one could apply the frame of the team they were rooting for and it was used over 17 million times. It was not just used by the common cricket fans but players from around the world, celebrities and public figures also applied the team frames to their profiles.

CricTracker was listed among the most-viewed sports publishers during the World T20 along with Cricbuzz, Sportskeeda, CricketCountry.com, Cricketnext, ESPNCricinfo and Sky Sports.

The news publishers in the list are Aaj Tak, ABP News, Hindustan Times, Indian Express, IBN Live, India Today, Quint and FirstPost.
