At 30, Daniel Hughes is a late bloomer of Australian cricket. In the last 24 months, the left-handed batsman has been leading the run-charts in every domestic competition of the country. What’s more special has been his consistency across formats. With this pace, a national call-up is round the corner for him.

It all started with his breakthrough Sheffield season a year ago as he amassed over 700 runs for New South Wales. Thereafter his stocks kept rising in the 2018-19 BBL where he gathered 399 runs in 15 ties. He stroked 4 half-centuries in the tournament and regularly provided brisk starts for the Sydney Sixers. In all, he has an average of 32 in T20s which is quite impressive.

Even now Hughes has been showing his dominance in the ongoing Marsh One-Day Cup. He has gathered 300 runs in his 4 outings including two centuries. That’s why he will turn some heads in the upcoming IPL auctions. Especially he can be a valuable asset for the Kolkata franchise as they need an assured batsman at top of the order. His alliance with Chris Lynn can be an ominous sign for the opposition ranks.
