The industrial hub of India, Ahmedabad, is on the top priority which would see its IPL franchise in the 2021 IPL season. Strong hints are dropping over the same city as Gujarat Cricket Association has refurbished Motera stadium there with a record seating capacity of 1,10,000. The Motera stadium in Ahmedabad saw the Quarter Final of the 2011 WC between India and Australia.

Gujarat state saw its IPL team in two seasons, 2016 and 2017. Gujarat Lions were led by Suresh Raina and in 2018, it attained 18 points to finish on the top of the tally during the league stage. Though the season was won by SRH, GL maintained its dominance well enough in the league.

During 2016-17, Parthiv Patel-led Gujarat team defeated Mumbai in the finals of Ranji Trophy to grab the maiden title. All these events have pushed up the interest of cricket in the state, and it can definitely see a team emerging from the city. With their impressive new stadium in hand, which can be a great venue to host the IPL audience, things can turn too well for Ahmedabad.
