Out of the world celebrations after taking a wicket or after scoring a century has become quite common these days on a cricket field. When international cricket was incepted in the year 1877, there used to be a minimal celebration on taking a wicket or after scoring a century. A customary handshake and few applause here and there could be heard from the crowd.

Neither cricket was like a religion to some like it is today, nor did it attract so many people. The tradition of celebrating probably came into the picture during the 1980s especially after ODI cricket gained prominence in the cricket world.

Since 1990, it has become a permanent feature in the game and since then we have witnessed some really unique and unusual ways of celebration by the players after reaching a landmark. Here we look at 5 Cricketers and their unique celebrations.

“The Prince of Kolkata” Sourav Ganguly was one of the most influential captains in Indian cricket history and led his side to many memorable victories. The “Bengal Tiger” made headlines during the tri-series final against England in 2002 after the latter took off his shirt to celebrate India’s exceptional victory.

England who had visited India a month back had drawn the ODI series 3-3 and Andrew Flintoff had taken off his shirt in the ground itself after England won the final match in Mumbai to level the series.

Ganguly gave Flintoff a medicine of his own after the southpaw celebrated in an extraordinary fashion at the “Mecca of Cricket”. It was youngsters Yuvraj Singh and Mohammad Kaif who ensured India chased down a mammoth 326 after tottering at 146/5 at one stage. Kaif was adjudged the Man of the Match for his heroics but the match will always be remembered for Sourav Ganguly’s out of the world celebrations after India’s famous win.
