Whenever Kusal Perera plays those short-arm jabs and cuts through the off-side, you will inexorably be reminded of the legendary Sanath Jayasuriya. He comes from the same school of thought and is a highly aggressive opener. He is known to have a penchant for the big runs and loves playing the long innings.

With so many big hitters around him, Kusal can buy some time and build on an innings if he plays for the CSK. If provided with the right direction and mentorship, he could be a lethal opener for the team. It’s been a while since Kusal has played in the IPL. He last represented the Rajasthan Royals in 2013 where he played a couple of games.

Six years down the line, he is a much better cricketer now and represents Sri Lanka across all the three formats. Moreover, he is a wicketkeeper as well. In case MS Dhoni decides to hang his boots any time soon, Kusal could turn up as the alternative behind the stumps.
