The Maharashtra-born bulky pacer, Umesh Yadav wore the national jersey way back in 2010 after showing impressive performances in the Ranji circuit for Vidarbha. He earned a national call up against Zimbabwe in ODIs, while he got his Test cap in the next year against West Indies at the  Feroz Shah Kotla in Delhi.

Even as Yadav held his place in the team during 2013-15, he was often been guilty of leaking runs and being inconsistent. He hit his prime in the 50-overs game for India in the 2015 ODI World Cup, where he scalped 18 wickets to finish as India’s leading wicket-taker and the third-highest in the mega-event overall.

Although, lacking consistent performances behind his back for too long meant that Yadav failed to cement his spot in a competitive Indian team. He has bagged 106 wickets from 75 ODIs at an average of 33.63, while in 7 T20Is, he has got 9 wickets under his belt. Having last played an ODI and T20I in 2018 and 2019 respectively, any chances of a national comeback in limited-overs cricket remain highly unlikely for Umesh. However, he continues to be a force to reckon with in the longest format of the game, where he has represented India 48 times thus far.
