Often regarded as the young Zaheer Khan of Punjab, Barinder Sran has had quite a history with the game. From going unsold and not getting an IPL contract to impressing Rahul Dravid to earn an IPL call-up, the boxy left-handed bowler has never experienced an extraordinary IPL outing.

Bought for a considerably high sum of 3.4 crores, the pacer never managed to exceed the expectations of the champions of the 12th edition and remained expensive and wicketless in both of his outings. Instead of being a worthy replacement for his Australian counterpart, Jason Behrendoff, he rather became the target link for the opposition in the Mumbai Indians bowling lineup.

Leaking runs to all four corners, he ended his season with an economy rate of over 12 runs in two matches, which led to the team to make changes in their squad to make up for their weak link. This would certainly not interest the newly-appointed bowling coach, Shane Bond who would aim at building a fiery bowling army that would take the field as the defending champions in the 2020 IPL.
