The legend of Australian cricket, Ricky Ponting is one of the best batsmen to have emerged from the country. He has scored a truckload of runs and has also won multiple championships. Ponting has an elusive track record as a player and captain but when it comes to fair play he is not that popular in the cricketing circle which will always be a small black mark in his report.

Punter led the side in the 2003 World Cup where the team didn’t drop a single game in the entire tournament. The finals was also a memorable one as the skipper himself hit an unbeaten 140 off 121 balls against the quality Indian bowling attack. Eventually, Sourav Ganguly‘s men lost the game and it was a heartbreak for the Indian fans who expected the team to beat the Kangaroos to lift their second title.

Exactly after one week from the conclusion of finals, a rumour started spreading across the world. It was about Ponting’s whirlwind knock where he smashed sixes effortlessly and some of the news channels started speculating that the bat contained springs. The Indian audience without even confirming the truth targetted Australian skipper but it was later confirmed as an April Fool’s prank which went completely wrong. It might be considered as an incident where Ponting got his Karma balanced.
