Because cricket is the mystic game of emotions, often we have seen our beloved cricketers outbursting their fervour and zeal onto the field. To fetch a win by any means, our favourite cricketers do play the game with a lofty intensity which eventually might trigger a huge amount of animation inside them.

But with the IPL being the plethora of high-pressure cricket, even the calmest of cricketers are seen spilling out their feelings and vehemence. Because of the stakes being rocket high, even the tranquil mind of these ice-cool individuals does end up feeling the heat.

Although there have been very elusive instances where the icing has taken a melt, the occurrences themselves have been the interesting ones. Hence, with the game strenuously testing the mental aspect of our dearest players, here’s a list of

Calmest cricketers that got angry in IPL matches

1. Buttler getting Mankad by Ravi Ashwin

Although Jos Buttler might be one of the most aggressive batters in today’s age,  his serene-like demeanour to play the game is one of the main reasons why he plays the second fiddle for his national skipper Eoin Morgan. As a wicket-keeper, Buttler might be seen having friendly banters with his opponents, but hardly anyone has seen him take a jab at any cricketer or get provoked by some external voices.

However, in the IPL 2019, his Mankad dismissal by Ravi Ashwin had enforced Jos Buttler to have a very heated conversation with the protagonist of the story. Although the dismissal was surely the legal way to sent Buttler back into the pavilion, Ravi Ashwin’s actions, in particular, had sparked the debate of him waiting for Buttler to pop out of his crease. Ashwin’s point of releasing the ball was the biggest factor during this dismissal and that is something that made Jos Buttler question his discharge.

By the time when the decision was pending into the hands of the third umpire, Jos Buttler was seen having a wrangling conversation with Ravi Ashwin. This Mankad dismissal was surely the most controversial story of the IPL 2019 and indeed turned out to be a bitter lesson for the Englishman.

2. MS Dhoni’s storming intervention against on-field umpires

While MS Dhoni might be one of the frosting minds to play the sport, here there was one elusive incident, where the CSK skipper felt the most heat. This incident had occurred in IPL 2019 when RR was playing against CSK at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. Both the teams in this game had competed hard against each other and with the last six balls left in the game, CSK needed a loft task of fetching 18 runs.

But with skipper Dhoni’s dismissal making CSK need 8 runs from 3 deliveries, Ben Stokes then bowled a full-toss delivery to Mitchell Santner, whose initial decision was signalled as a no-ball by umpire Gandhe, who was standing at the bowler’s end. However, Bruce Oxenford being the square-leg umpire, denied the no-ball call and clarified it as a fair delivery. Now with Dhoni spotting umpire Gandhe’s no-ball signal just propelled him to storm out from the pavilion eventually going for the protest against on-field umpires.

The unclear decision also then involved the other RR players with the argument between Dhoni and umpires getting highly heated. However, with Bruce Oxenford being the right man to judge the decision, the veteran umpire diffused the entire situation by calling it a legal delivery. In the end, the match was sealed by CSK along with Dhoni making a sincere apology.

3. Kane Williamson losing his cool on Priyam Garg

While the 2019 World Cup final loss might have been the incident where Williamson could have shredded some emotions, it was actually this unfortunate occurrence, which propelled Williamson to spill out his elusive anger and disappointment. The incident had happened in IPL 2020, where SRH were playing against CSK.

While batting first, both Kane Williamson and Priyam Garg were set to take SRH to a sizable total, but this incident in the 11th over made the Kiwi batsman get fumed on Priyam Garg. By facing Piyush Chawla, Williamson had flicked the ball to mid-wicket and had called for a quick single. However, Priyam Garg barely showed some interest leading Williamson to get trapped in the middle of the pitch. With Ambati Rayudu fielding at mid-wicket, he promptly collected the ball and gave a clean throw to MS Dhoni to dislodge the stumps. And with Dhoni’s quick hands coming into the picture, Williamson was run-out at that end.

Now regardless of Williamson’s call being impractical, he looked highly disheartened and fumed towards Priyam Garg. Although the SRH team did win the game against CSK, Williamson’s spill-off emotions surely made a high buzz amongst fans.

4. Rahul Dravid’s heated altercation against Mitchell Johnson

Rahul Dravid, who is often regarded as the epitome of this gentlemen’s game was once seen in action against Mitchell Johnson. Mitchell Johnson, as we all know has always been an aggressive pacer, who often with his talking has scalped some important dismissals. Similarly, it was in Qualifier 2 of the IPL 2013, that Mitchell Johnson tried to get under the skin of the veteran Rahul Dravid.

The incident had taken shape in the third over of the game when Rahul Dravid had played a drive off Johnson’s delivery for a boundary at the mid-off region. In reply, the shot provoked the speedster, eventually making him speak some words towards Rahul Dravid.

Again in the very next ball, Rahul Dravid played a vigorous flick for a boundary and then asked Mitchell Johnson ‘whether he wants to say something?’ In the end, Dravid played a handy inning of 43, but the MI team did win the game by 4 wickets.

5. Jacques Kallis’ verbal spat with umpires

This incident had taken shape in IPL 6 when Jacques Kallis was representing the KKR team and the match was happening against the Pune franchise. While bowling to Aaron Finch, Jacques Kallis had made a run-out appeal which was eventually rejected by the third-umpire Simon Taufel.

Jacques Kallis appealed his boots touching the ball, which had went on to hit the stumps, making Aaron Finch, the non-striker short from his crease. While Aaron Finch was surely short at the non-striker’s end, the improper evidence of the ball making a contact or no with the Kallis’s boots influenced the third umpire to call it in favour of the batsman. However, it was then the outcome of the decision which enraged Kallis propelling him to have a verbal spat with the on-field umpire Sudhir Asnani. Kallis also eventually asked the umpire – “Are you calling me a cheat?”

With the experience of Simon Taufel being the third umpire, the decision seemed to be the correct way but an extensive appeal by Jacques Kallis surely made it look a lot more closer. All in all, after this occurrence, Kallis did scalp Aaron Finch’s wicket by breaking his stumps.
