The Barabati stadium in Cuttack made headlines around the world for all the wrong reasons. Indian cricket was shamed because of a few angry fans at the venue during the 2nd T20 international between India and South Africa. Shameful and unsavoury behavior marred the game as a section of spectators started hurling water bottles on the ground when South Africa were cruising to victory in pursuit of India’s paltry total.
Put in to bat the hosts got bundled for 92, their second-lowest T20I total. The disgraceful incident took place first at the end of 11 overs, and the match was continued after a brief break due to the disruption. But again at the end of 13 overs a repeat happened, the crowd did not respond to repeated public requests and the game eventually had to be suspended for a while. South Africa eventually won the match comprehensively, but the incident left a bad taste among genuine supporters and the players.
