In 2017, India went on to play three Tests and five ODIs and a T20I against Sri Lanka on their home soil. The first ODI took place on 20th August 2017 in which the hosts batted first and India bowled them out on 216 and won the game quite dominantly, as they took only 28.3 overs to finish the chase. Shikhar Dhawan scored an unbeaten 132 off 90 balls and became the Player of the Match.

Sri Lanka batted first again in the second ODI and scored a good 236. India’s innings progressed nut Akila Dhananjaya stole the show and India went on to lose seven wickets. But MS Dhoni came for the rescue and added 100 runs in a partnership with Bhuvneshwar Kumar as India won the game eventually.

In the third ODI, Sri Lanka were not able to find a clue against Jasprit Bumrah, who took his maiden fifer in ODIs and they were able to score only 217 and India chased down the target in 45.1 overs, featuring a 124* by Rohit Sharma.

In the fourth ODI, India batted first and scored a huge total of 375 runs and showed Sri Lanka how to bat first in ODIs, as the skipper Virat Kohli and his deputy Rohit Sharma scored 131 and 104 respectively and India bowled them out for 207 and won the encounter by 168 runs.

In the fifth and the final ODI, Sri Lanka batted first and got bowled out for 238 with Bhuvneshwar Kumar picking a fifer and India chased down the target in 46.3 overs by 6 wickets and again the skipper played a quality knock, scoring a 110 and ensured India a 5-0 clean sweep on the foreign soil.
