On Wednesday, December 8, Rohit Sharma was named India’s full-time ODI and T20I captain by BCCI. It means Virat Kohli’s tenure as limited-overs skipper of the Indian Cricket Team came to an end. He led the side in 95 ODI games and won 65 of them and as a full-time captain, he led the side in 78 games and won 51 of them.

On 15th January 2017, it was Kohli’s first game as a full-time ODI captain. England showed their class at the MCA Stadium in Pune but still, they were outgunned. They posted 350 on the board with Joe Root, Jason Roy and Ben Stokes scoring 78, 73 and 62 respectively and on any pitch for 50-over cricket, it was a winning total.

India started their innings and lost wickets in quick succession, they were 63-4 at one moment. England thought that they are winning the game very easily but Kohli and Kedar Jadhav had other plans. In the next game, India opted to bat first and put a good total of 289, featuring 109 from Shikhar Dhawan in a rain-affected the game. South Africa got a revised target of 202 runs in 28 overs and this time the hosts batted beautifully and chased it down in 25.3 overs with 15 balls to spare.

Kuldeep Yadav took 4 wickets and bowled out RSA for 179 and India won the game by 124 runs. To date, this is India’s biggest win in terms of runs against South Africa in their backyard.
In the next game, India opted to bat first and put a good total of 289, featuring 109 from Shikhar Dhawan in a rain-affected the game. South Africa got a revised target of 202 runs in 28 overs and this time the hosts batted beautifully and chased it down in 25.3 overs with 15 balls to spare.
In the fifth ODI, India batted first and scored 274 in 50 overs with courtesy of a 115 from Rohit Sharma. Hashim Amla played well scoring 71 but Kuldeep Yadav assured that South Africa were bowled out for 201 and India won by 73 runs and they ensured a series win by taking a lead of 4-1 with one game left in the series.
In the final ODI, South Africa batted first and were able to put only 204 on the board. Kohli scored his third century of the series, scoring an unbeaten 129 off 96 balls and led his side to chase down the target in 32.1 overs. Kohli scored the most runs in a bilateral ODI series by a player (558).

India toured Australia for four Tests, three ODIs and three T20Is in 2018-2019. India had to taste a defeat in the first One Day international and after that, the other two encounters were do-or-die for India, but they showed their caliber and ended up winning the series with 2-1 as skipper Kohli became the first and till date the only Indian captain to win an ODI series in Australia.
Australia won the toss and opted to bat first in the first ODI and put up 288 runs on the board, but India only scored 254 in 50 overs with Rohit Sharma scoring 133 off 129 balls in and lost the match by 34 runs.
After losing the first match, India had to win the other two games to win the series. Australia won the toss and batted first in the second ODI and gave India a target of 299 runs. They started their innings and won the game in the last over with another brilliant hundred from the skipper himself, he scored 104 off 112 balls and India won the game by 6 wickets.
In the final ODI, India won the toss and elected to field. Australia came to bat first and got bowled out for 230 featuring 6-42 from Yuzvendra Chahal. India chased down the target in the last over with a gutsy innings from the vintage MS Dhoni, he scored an unbeaten 87 from 114 balls and India won the game as well as the series by seven wickets.

On July 22nd, 2019, there was the seventh India vs Pakistan world cup encounter going to take place. Like any other India-Pakistan game, this was also tensed and hyped battle. And the whole of India was expecting India to win for the seventh time in a row. There was plenty of quality cricket, but nearly all of them were from one side.
