Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) is one of the most followed franchises in Indian Premier League. And, the star-studded line-up that comprises of players like AB de Villiers, Virat Kohli, Aaron Finch and Moeen Ali is one of the main reasons behind its massive fan following.
RCB is one of the teams that comes out as one of the contenders to win the cash-rich league every season. However, they fail to live up to the expectations of the fans. In last 12 successive season, they have not managed to win the IPL trophy for once. It is quite surprising to hear but its a fact that cannot be changed. They have managed to reach finals thrice but ended up losing on all the occasions.
This time, they look pretty solid after some new recruitments being made by the management in the IPL 2020 auction. There are some questions on the commencement of the league due to COVID-19 outbreak. However, if this season gets a nod from BCCI, then there are some mistakes that Virat Kohli-led RCB should not commit if they want to win their maiden title. The things look bleak at the moment but it all depends on the cricket board on how they want to go forward with 13th edition of the league.
Let’s check out the five mistakes that RCB should not make in order to win IPL 2020:
1. Perfect team combination
Royal Challengers Bangalore always struggles to find their perfect combination in the early phase of the tournament. They lose some crucial games due to the same. They need to come out with some good planning and team combination in the 13th edition of IPL. In past, it is always seen that Virat Kohli-led side drops lots of points in the starting phase due to their poor team combination.
They need to come up with a balanced side and good players in every respective department of the game. Moreover, the team management should not direct their focus just on their batting but to other departments as well.
If Kohli fails to pick his perfect XI wisely, then the RCB fans’ dream to watch their side winning maiden IPL trophy might once again get shattered. This was one of the main reasons behind their poor performances in the previous season of IPL.
2. RCB should not rely only on AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli
It is well known that the heart of RCB lies in AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli, who can single-handedly win games for their side. They have managed to do so in the previous seasons as well. Now, the opponents are also well aware of the fact that if they manage to grab their wickets, then the chances of RCB winning the game will be quite slim. Moreover, many teams proved it right by doing the same in the previous editions of the league.
Hence, RCB batting line-up should not rely much on AB de Villiers and their skipper Virat Kohli in batting as it is a team sport. A single individual cannot make his side win such a competitive tournament.
Hence, other players in the batting line-up should step forward and score runs with the bat. Also, RCB now have a couple of big T20 names in their side like Aaron Finch and Josh Philippe.
3. Indian players in the squad need to perform well
RCB has some prolific talented Indian players in their side like Shivam Dube, Parthiv Patel, Pawan Negi and Washington Sundar, who are equipped with some exceptional talents. But, a sudden dip in the form has always been a big problem with these players. If RCB wants to win their maiden title, then these players will have to come out all guns blazing in their respective department.
It will give extra liberty to the big players like Kohli, Finch and de Villiers to play without any pressure as there are players in the lower middle-order, who can compensate if anyone of them had a poor day on the field.
RCB will have lots of expectations from their powerhouse Indian all-rounder Shivam Dube to give out stellar performance with the bat and ball.
4. Death bowling pair
In IPL 2020, RCB have got some of the good players in their fast bowling department. They have the services of Umesh Yadav, Kane Richardson, Navdeep Saini, Dale Steyn and Mohammad Siraj. However, this brings a lot of concern for Virat Kohli-led side. They have some tough choice to make on which two bowlers in the aforementioned will bowl in the death overs. It is the crucial phase of the game where the winner of the encounter is decided.
All the bowlers have proved their worth in international cricket in the recent past. But, who will bowl the crucial overs for the team will be a key to success for RCB. They will have to decide their death over specialists early in the tournament.
In the previous seasons, their bowlers had given away bucket loads of runs in the final overs of the game that in turn resulted as the reason behind the defeat of the team.
5. Overseas player combination
Royal Challengers Bangalore have lots of overseas players in their arsenal as always. They have the services of Aaron Finch, Moeen Ali, Joshua Philipp, Kane Richardson, Dale Steyn, Chris Morris and Isuru Udana. But, the rules say that a team can play with only four overseas players. Moreover, due to the presence of AB de Villiers in the team, there are only three spots left to grab.
This has always been a problem with RCB that they can’t opt for the overseas players that can enhance the performance of the team. Earlier, when they used to pick a foreign bowler, then their batting used to get weak and vice-versa. Virat Kohli is experienced and well aware of the conditions that come during a game in the cash-rich league.
Hence, he is expected to make some tough calls and pick a proper troop of the overseas player that can lead their side to the top of the table with their performances. And, can fulfil the dreams of millions of RCB fans. If by any means, Kohli fails to pick the best, chances of RCB winning the trophy will be quite slim.
