With West Indies already carrying enough flamboyance and firepower in their powerhouse batting lineup which will also get more elevated with the presence of Andre Russell for the ICC event, there are high chances that a player like Shimron Hetmyer might get swayed. Hetmyer, in his last year, has twice failed the fitness test of the West Indies board and hasn’t played enough international cricket.

Apart from failing the fitness test for the home series against Sri Lanka, Hetmyer also was seen absent from the tour of Bangladesh. Also, in the short three-match T20I series against the Kiwis, Hetmyer could only make a score of 25 from his two outings. However, off late Hetmyer had scored a brilliant hundred in the Regional Super50 competition for Guyana Jaguars and will be entering the IPL with some form and confidence.

Even in the IPL because of the absence of Shreyas Iyer, Hetmyer will be anticipated to bat up in the DC’s batting order or at least might be seen as the initial starter between him and Steve Smith. All in all, the IPL conditions aren’t something alien for this swashbuckling batsman. Also, still, there’s a little turmoil in the WI’s middle-order batting which eventually means a bumper IPL will help Hetmyer to nearly secure a spot for the mega event in October.
