The mystery spinner from Tamil Nadu made his international debut at the age of 30. Unfortunately, he has fallen prey to injuries since the beginning of his career. On a few occasions, he has even failed to clear the fitness test which resulted in his exclusion from the squads. He has played six T20Is for India and has two wickets to his name at a bowling average of 66.

Varun used to be a surprise package for the batters in the initial days of his IPL career. However, with time, the batters have found ways to pick him and score runs off his bowling. As of now in IPL 2022, he has picked up only four wickets in eight matches at a bowling average of 66. He was known for his economy rate but this year he has been conceding runs at 8.82 per over.

With form and fitness not on his side, it might be the end of the road for Varun Chakravarthy in international cricket. Varun made his T20I debut for India in July 2021 against Sri Lanka. He then was named in India’s squad for the 2021 ICC T20 World Cup. Since that tournament, he has not played a single T20I for India.
