After an impressive outing in 2018 U-19 World Cup, where he scored 88 runs in 3 innings and picked up 6 wickets, Abhishek was picked up by Delhi Daredevils (now Capitals) for 55 lakhs. He returned it with stroke-filled 46 off 19 deliveries, and narrowly missed on from becoming the youngest to score a half-century in the tournament.

He was traded to Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2019. But a lack of opportunities meant that the youngster had to warm the bench for most of the season. However, he is a 3-dimensional player, whose bowling and fielding are equally good as his batting. He has a bright future ahead, and with some hard work, he can become a good-all-rounder for the Indian team.
