Bangladesh cricket has been engulfed by darkness off late. Their premier all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan won’t be playing any cricket until October 29, 2020. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has slapped him with a backdated two-year suspension after he breached ICC’s code of conduct as many as three times.
He didn’t report match-fixing approaches to the ICC’s Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU). The ban means that he won’t be a part of the T20 World Cup in Australia. For the upcoming tour of India, Mahmudullah has been appointed as the T20I skipper.
Shakib won’t also be taking part in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 where he is with the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). For SRH, even as replacing Shakib won’t be a piece of cake, the franchise may search for an apt replacement.
In the article, let’s take a look at five players who can replace Shakib Al Hasan in SRH for IPL 2020
Wanindu Hasaranga
Wanindu Hasaranga made his T20 debut back in September against New Zealand and has already shown his magic. He got the Black Caps’ batsmen in a tangle at home and then rattled the Pakistan batting lineup without dropping much sweat. Akila Dananjaya has been banned from bowling for a year and in his absence, Hasaranga is being seen as a main weapon in the Islanders’ spin attack.
In Pakistan, he picked up 8 wickets and was the Player of the Series. There the leg-spinner turned the leather a mile and caught the batters napping. Parking aside his bowling prowess, he can also hit the ball a fair distance, batting lower down the order.
In 30 T20s, the 22-year-old Young Turk has a strike-rate of 130.87 with one-half century to his name. The Galle-born can be a handy option for the SRH team.
