2018 was a fruitful year for Shimron Hetmyer. He scored a couple of ODI centuries versus the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bangladesh. But it was his century against India in Guwahati that helped him gain some attention.

In the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), he was the third-highest run-scorer, representing the Guyana Amazon Warriors. There Hetmyer got 440 runs at an average of 40. The numbers only enhanced his reputation. The IPL 2019 auction took place in December 2018 and Hetmyer was a hot property.

His base price was INR 50 lakhs, but it went up to INR 4.2 crore where Virat Kohli’s RCB bagged him. In fact, the team bid only once and before that, KXIP, DC, RR and SRH went hammer and tongs. Hetmyer disappointed that season, scoring only 90 runs in five contests.
