Just like his skipper Samson, even Shivam Dube looked like a temporary replacement of Hardik Pandya for India. The cricketer after the 2019 World Cup was routinely seen as part of the Indian team and also received some reasonable opportunities. At least in T20Is, the all-rounder played 13 matches and could collectively score 105 runs from his nine innings.

Also in the IPL 2020, where the all-rounder did get a fair bit of chances, Dube could only accumulate 169 runs from his 15 matches. Despite carrying a reputation of being a powerful hitter, the above runs were only amassed at a strike rate of less than 125. Further than this, few of the IPL teams had also exposed his one-dimensional hitting wherein his firepower gameplay is only effective towards the “V” part of the park.

With his omission from the current T20I squad, one in a broader sense can anticipate that he has been mainly replaced by his new team Rahul Tewatia. Because of Tewatia’s breakthrough in IPL 2020, the team management would be wanting to try some experimentation with his all-round skill set. All in all, now mainly with the arrival of Hardik Pandya, Dube’s chances of grabbing a World T20 ticket does look elusive.
