2. Extending the batting powerplay:

It has been a conscious effort from the ICC to make the batting team to take the batting powerplay before the end of 40 overs to reduce the monotonousness of middle over’s where the batsmen often tend to cut down the risk and are contented with rotating the strike, accumulating singles and doubles. And thus for viewers who have seen high voltage action with T20, the over’s from 20 to 35 are boring and uneventful.

Extending the duration of powerplay from 5 to 6 overs and splitting the batting powerplay into 2 of 3 overs each, one to be taken between 20-30 and the other for the overs 30-40 is certain to make the game more interesting. With the advent of T20, batsmen will tend to take a few more chances in these over’s and will result in spicing up the contest.
