Glenn McGrath, who had first played a prominent role in DD’s prosperous IPL campaign in 2008, was seen disgruntled against the franchise in IPL 2009, mainly because of his complete omission from the side. Just like the previous season, the DD team under Sehwag’s captaincy was upholding a robust squad especially with its Indian pace contingent (Ashish Nehra, Pradeep Sangwan & Aavishkar Salvi) performing consistently for them.

Even the Victorian pacer Dirk Nannes from Australia was vigorously hounding batters with his pace and bounce and was scalping wickets with ease. Hence, the overall steadfastness of this bowling attack had barely propelled DD to infuse Glenn McGrath into the playing XI and perhaps also barely found him a match fit for the entire season.

However, later on, while expressing his dissatisfaction, McGrath had revealed about him being much fitter from last year and unfortunately because of his prolonged bench-warming experience he might prefer skipping the next IPL season. In the end, Glenn McGrath’s terrifying omission had made DD endure a severe castigation from its fans especially when the team lost a horrifying semi-final against DC.
