Sourav Ganguly, who was KKR’s first IPL skipper in the inaugural edition was later scrapped from captaincy in the second IPL season mainly because of the coach John Buchanan’s rubbish theory of multi- captaincy. The KKR team under Ganguly’s captaincy had reasonably failed to make it into the semis of the first IPL season which in particular became a fitting reason for the coach John Buchanan to try out his multi captaincy endeavour.

However, before the start of the second IPL season, John Buchanan in a press conference was seen struggling to immaculately explain how his theory was not pursued because of Ganguly’s substandard captaincy along with also erasing rumours about any rift between the two. Later on, the multi captaincy theory, in general, turned out to be havoc for the franchise, eventually making the team endure its worst-ever IPL season.

Nevertheless, after the team’s appalling show, it was found out that Sourav Ganguly was demoralized in the KKR set up and his captaincy sacking also sought some direct involvement from the owners. All in all, the overall churning of events had once again allowed Ganguly to gain commemorative support from his fans thus eventually allowing him to regain his captaincy for the third season.
